Primos Double Bull SurroundView Review

I know a lot of internet readers like to get straight to the point so I\’ll post a quick table that summarizes our Primos Double Bull SurroundView review.

Video From The Hunters ViewPoint in the SurroundView Blind

This interactive YouTube video offers you control of the camera. On a PC use the directional control in the upper right hand corner.

Hunters have been hunting the ground since the beginning of time. Concealment and scent control is always tremendously important when hunting eye level with your prey. In this article we are going to cover everything you are asking about the Primos Double Bull SurroundView ground blind. You will learn about the SurroundView setup, reviews, materials, how it works and if it is worth the money.

Portable ground blinds can help with scent control and concealment. One of the biggest issues with portable grounds has been field of view and visibility. This is the main reason that my kids hate hunting out of ground blinds because your view is so limited.

The new 2018 SurroundView ground blind series from Primos Double Bull offers an incredible new feature. The SurroundView has shooting windows but the hunter now has the ability to see through the walls of the ground. This feature is definitely a game changer.

How Does SurroundView Work

First things first, let\’s look at the see through wall panels. The wall material material in the SurroundView Ground Blind is perforated with thousand of tiny holes. See a closeup picture below.

The exterior of the material is finished in the Primos Truth Camo Pattern. The deer and human eyes do not have the ability to focus on the tiny holes. From any distance in normal light the eye is only capable of seeing the camo pattern.

The opposite is true from the interior. The hunter is surrounded by a blacked out interior. The tiny holes allow natural light to pass through and the hunter is capable of focusing on the image.

This creates the see through effect that makes the ground blind so revolutionary.

Can Deer See Into the SurroundView Blind

The simply and shortest answer is NO! I think is should be pretty clear the see through wall technology really works.

While doing research I ran across this independent review. Mahoney takes a closer look at the Surroundview and his video provides plenty of evidence supporting the claims of Will Primos and other.

How Do You Set Up The SurroundView Blind

Secondly let’s look at how to set up the SurroundView. This how to video will show you how to set up the Primos SurroundView Series

Primos Double Bull SurroundView Set Up Instructions & Video

  1.   Remove from carry bag
  2.   Stretch fabric and lay on the the ground.
  3.   Find an outside wall and pull the hub strap to expand the side wall
  4.   The roof is next. Find the roof and pull the hub strap to expand the roof
  5.  Now locate another side wall and continue until the hunting blind is deployed

Set the Primos Double Bull SurroundView up in your backyard for several days. This will give you practice in setting the blind. It will also give the material time to stretch and also give all the components time to air out and wash away that factory smell.

How Does the Primos SurroundView Handle the Wind

The Primos SurroundView was released in the spring of 2018. Turkey hunters were standing in line to purchase the hunting blind because of the industry leading field of view. However, deer hunters were on the fence because of concerns of scent control and weatherproofing.

Deer hunting forums were buzzing about the Surroundview. Most of the topics were favorable but the forum threads were all peppered with statements about scent control.

Avid ground blind hunters prefer a blind that \”contains\” their scent signature and spooking less animals. I believe the primary premise is to not allow wind to blow through the blind and there by controlling the amount of scent shared downwind.

The Primos prostaff team must have read these comments and statements because they created a very informative video that shows exactly how well the suddenview performs in different wind conditions.

The first example is outdoors in approximately 2 mph breeze. The breeze is measured multiple times and then visible tested with a powder wind indicator.

The same test is then executed inside of the blind. There is no noticable precense of wind inside the blind.

The Primos team then moved the test inside the factory. A large industrial fan is used simulate a 10 mph wind. The test results were basically the same.

There is basically no visible wind indication passing through the see-through walls. My general opinion is that no ground blind is completely scent proof but the results of the test help me conclude the SurroundView will help \”control\” your scent cone.

What If My Primos Double Bull Surround View Breaks?

You have nothing to worry about. The SurroundView is backed by the Primos Limited Lifetime Warranty. This means your ground blind deer hunting tips will be repaired or replaced if the product failure is not caused by product misuse.

I have had great support from Primos but I wanted to do some research to be sure my experience was not isolated.

Primos has a great reputation for customer service

What to Expect From the Primos SurroundView Warranty?

It turns out I was not the only one that received great customer service from the Primos Hunting warranty team. The Double Bull brand has a great history and reputation for using common sense and focusing on customer satisfaction.

There are numerous accounts of deer hunters trying to repair older Double Bull models. Many of these hunters emailed or called Primos for help. The Primos team repsonded by providing the needed parts and support at no additional charge(except shipping).

Is The SurroundView Waterproof

Being weatherproof is one of the major benefits of portable hunting blinds and permanent hunting blinds. Sitting through a rain storm and severe cold means maximum hours in the field and increasing your chances of being successful.

The SurroundView is not completely waterproof or weatherproof but I don\’t see this as a huge negative. The added benefit of offering a complete view of your hunting area far outweighs letting in a dampness.

Unbiased reviews of the SurroundView have proven the see through wall material does in fact keep rain out!

A small rain shower will not penetrate the the see through wall material. Read more from a detailed post.

A very heavy rain that is driven by wind will penetrate the wall material. This has been simulated with a garden hose. Under most circumstances the SurroundView should keep you and your gear safe and dry….unless you are hunting in a hurricane.

How Big is the Primos Double Bull SurroundView

The 180 and 270 Look Very Smiliar but the sizes are different

The SurroundView hunting blind comes in the following three sizes;

180 – 48 in x 48 in x 65 in

270 – 55 in x 55 in x 70 in

360 – 60 in x 60 in x 70 in

The 180 model is plenty of room for one hunter especially if you are a crossbow or rifle shooter.

The 270 model has enough room for one adult and a kid.

The 360 model appears to have enough room to hide two adult hunters.

Primos SurroundView Review Conclusion

In conclusion, we are impressed by the design and believe there are great things to come with the SurroundView series of hunting blinds. The see through walls are really solving a problem of conventional blinds and changing the way people will consider using portable hunting blinds as a tool for whitetail deer hunting.

Here are the takeaways in no particular order;

  • The SurroundView is very impressive
  • The see through wall panels must increase your odds of succes
  • Primos needs to make the carry bag match the purchase price
  • Please add a few loops for brushing in the blind
  • It is still too early to lay final judgement on durability

If you love hunting from the ground or you hunting lease doesn’t offer many treestand locations, please give the SurroundView a try and post your opinion and review in the comments below.

I know we have provided information overload but we are trying to arm you with all the information when searching for a new hunting blind.

Primos Double Bull SurroundView on Sale

The new arrival to the marketplace has many stores and online vendors showing an out of stock status. I am sure the turkey hunters put a run on the product and Primos is trying to catch up.

I checked all the major online players like Cabelas, Bass Pro, Academy, Dicks Sporting Goods, Scheels, and Rogers and they all seem to be listing each model at the MSRP – manufacturer’s suggested retail price. Below are some of the Surroundview sale prices and best deals that are currently available. We expect more sales will pop up between now and the opening of the 2018 deer season.
